In my quest to get to the southern breakwater to capture photos of the morning sunrise, I was wondering where all the "creeking" noise that was heard was coming from. When I got to the breakwater, the answer was right in front of me and captured here. The individual ice "plates" were expanding and rubbing against each other and the breakwater, creating the creeking noise; sometimes quite audible! The white flaky stuff on top of the ice plates is the ice that is getting ground up between the plates as they rub against each other.
