Color the River Green

No, there wasn't a power failure at the sewage treatment plant. It was the annual dyeing of the Chicago River green for St. Patrick's Day. Chicago is the only city in the world where you will find a green river in honor of the holiday. The Chicago River has been dyed green for the occasion since 1962. The dye that is poured into the river is actually orange. Once poured in, the river turns orange just before the beautiful shade of Irish green appears. They use a vegetable-based dye which is safe for all marine life. Forty (40) pounds of dye are used to color the Chicago River green. #city #bridge #architecture #water #river
