Mission San Francisco de la Espada was established in San Antonio in 1731. A testament to the builders is the fact that every 4th of October (the Feast of Saint Francis) the rising sun shines directly through a window in the back of the Church on to the statue of Saint Francis. This only occurs on October 4th and no other date.
